The jury is still partly out on the Nighthawk app. But my initial review isn't good. I just finished setting up a mesh system, and the app has been buggy and fiddly as hell. Several times it told me the router wasn't compatible with the app. If you take more than 60 seconds on a task, a contact support pop-up appears. God forbid you have any other apps open or attempt to switch between them. At the moment, I hope I don't have to use this app often.

Update : The app is still giving me trouble periodically. I find that it will log me out them I'll have trouble logging back in. It would be nice if the app was more user friendly and useful. —------------------ I've noticed that with each new update the app seems to be getting worse. I have notifications that it can't connect to my routers. I don't know why it's so heavily suggested if it's not user friendly or stable at times. I love NETGEAR routers but I strongly dislike the app.

It mostly works but rarely does it appropriately tell me if it's connected or disconnected to my wifi. Rather it generally says connected and then a notification on the app screen tells me it's not connected to wifi. Beings that this is the primary purpose of this app and the corresponding device I would think they would get that right.
